As everyone is well-aware, your wedding day is one of the most important days in your entire life. It is a day you will remember forever, so most people want everything planned and worked out to the last minute. Many couples also choose to work with an experienced wedding planner to help prepare and figure out the wedding day timeline.
At the McDaniel-Tichenor House in Monroe, GA, our team is here to partner with couples to help them plan their big day, and we are delighted to have our historic mansion be a part of your celebration. We have put together some of our top tips to assist couples in the wedding planning process because we want to ensure that your wedding is unforgettably wonderful!
Whether you are working with a professional wedding planner or utilizing the skills of a family member or friend, everyone could always use a bit more assistance when it comes to planning the wedding ceremony and reception. Here are 10 tips to help you ensure that your wedding date is as perfect as possible, especially preparing the wedding day timeline:
Caterers, photographers, florists, hair and makeup artists, wedding ceremony musicians, and any other professional service you may need for the perfect wedding should be provided by an expert to ensure that everything goes according to plan. Even if you plan the wedding by yourself, you should still work with professionals for other wedding reception and ceremony aspects. They can also help you figure out the length of time that certain parts of the wedding day will take (dinner, ceremony time, photography sessions, etc.) and offer you a sample wedding day timeline.
Wedding professionals, especially photographers, should know how your family dynamics work to ensure everyone stays on schedule. Keeping the family-focused will help things go smoothly and enable photographers to get the perfect shot.
Do some research before you begin to plan the itinerary to make sure you know approximately how long certain wedding day activities will take to complete. That includes portions such as the getting ready process, transportation between venues, cocktail hour, ceremony, family photos, cake cutting, wedding party photos, parent dances, the grand entrance, and anything else you want to include.
Your wedding schedule may also need to include pre-wedding activities that take place for the weekend. Exercises like rehearsal dinner should be scheduled along with the catering and venues to ensure everyone knows where and when to be in a particular location. Be sure everyone is on the same page.
To prevent any confusion, your wedding party members should always be kept up-to-date, from the maid of honor to the ring bearer and everyone in between. If you need to adjust when the ceremony starts, who will be participating in the sparkler send-off, the different locations in which the events will take place, your wedding party, and the professionals you are working with need to be updated immediately.
Whether it is the formal pictures or moving from the getting-ready outfits to formal wear, the more people you have involved, the longer it will take for everyone to be ready. With a small wedding party, you may not need to allot very much time, but a large party will most certainly need more time before the ceremony starts. It is a great idea to confirm the wedding party size well before making your wedding timeline.
In addition to the ceremony itself, you should be sure to plan out the wedding reception as well. Knowing the wedding reception venue (if it is not the same venue as the ceremony) is only one part of the plan. There are many other details to plan out as well.
You should know when the photographer arrives, how long most wedding receptions last, when the married couple's first dance will be, the songs for the father-daughter dance as well as the mother-son dance, the time and place for the bouquet toss, when and who will take detail shots and golden hour (be sure you know the exact sunset time) photos (and where), dinner time, and any other parts of the reception.
Even though brides and grooms want to plan every moment of the wedding day festivities down to the very minute, there needs to be a bit of flexibility. There may be an issue with the wedding dress, wedding guests may be a bit late, the bridal suite may not be ready, and various other hiccups may delay the ceremony or reception just a bit. That is normal and should be accounted for. Discussing this with an experienced wedding coordinator can be helpful.
Wedding ceremonies may be perfectly planned, but the day will not last forever. With all of the months of planning you have been doing for the big day, you must work a few minutes into the wedding timeline to relax and enjoy the actual event. It should be the greatest day of your life, and you should be able to revel in the wonder that is your love. Be sure to take some time to smile and embrace the happiness around you.
Although it may sound paranoid, you will want to confirm the various details of your wedding day timeline throughout the months leading up to the big day. Confirm with the wedding venue, professionals involved, guests invited, and anyone who contributes to the day. That will relieve pressure as time goes by.
One of the worst feelings to have is being stranded in a location without transportation. It would be awful for the bride or bridal party to be late to the wedding venue or miss sunset photos because their ride was not on time.
